Tamara Povh, Univ. B.Sc. psych.,
gestalt psychotherapist
Personally, I have been interested in people for as long as I can remember. I wonder how we as individuals work and in what way we connect. I followed my interest when in 1995 I enrolled to study psychology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana.
The further search for answers led me to gestalt therapy, a type of psychotherapy that led me to surprising insights in my personal and professional life.
After graduation, I got a job as a counselor at a high school, where I also taught psychology.
After five years, I decided to get a job at the "Human Project" company, where I worked as a psychotherapist with individuals, relatives and groups of addicts. Last I have been developing an independent practice for years
and I continue to develop as a person.
I am a member of the Slovenian Society for Gestalt Therapy (SLOGES) and I work in accordance with the code of ethics of this society.
As a psychotherapist, I focus on accepting the reality of each individual as real. During the class, I focus my attention on the experience of the person opposite me. I try to empathize with her. Being in her shoes. Embrace her experience. Personally, I don't believe that we change when we criticize ourselves or put pressure on ourselves to be different. Real change (in our essence) occurs when we accept ourselves, when we feel accepted and heard. This is how we slowly open up to the other person, establish trust and let them touch us. The purpose of therapy is to become more and more ourselves, authentic, with self-awareness.
